An academic lunchtime lecture with Jonathan Dekel-Chen, Israel Institute Visiting Scholar, on "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Jewish Farming on Four Continents."
Dr. Dekel-Chen will speak about the little-known history of the Jewish agrarianization movement from the 1880s until the eve of the Second World War and some of its more recent developments. Although almost completely forgotten in collective memory, farming was a major feature of Jewish life for decades in the Americas, Eastern Europe and, of course, in the Land of Israel. This lunchtime presentation gives a brief overview of this extraordinary piece of history and a glimpse into the course offered by Dr. Dekel-Chen in the spring semester.
